Scholarship Information

The RB Chorale, Inc. has awarded Scholarships for over 40 years, and once again intends to offer six (6) awards in the Spring of 2016. A mimimum total of $10,000 is for musically talented graduating San Diego County high school students destined for a college or university to further their musical performing arts education. Any music field is eligible – voice, or any solo instrument, including piano, brass, string, wind and percussion.

This notice outlines the selection process for Scholarship Awards to be presented at the 2016 shows on June 10 and 11. The performance venue is the Poway Center for the Performing Arts (PCPA). Each show evening awards totaling $5,000 or more is divided between three (3) performers.

Selection of finalists is via the following four-step process:

  1. Applications must be postmarked no later than  April 9, 2016.  The  Scholarship Committee reviews every application and notifies each candidate by mail, of their audition and interview date and time.
  2. The candidate auditions for the Chorale Board of Directors in Rancho Bernardo, on Saturday morning April 30, 2016 starting at 9:30 AM at Studio West.  Applicants must attend the audition on this day.  No alternate day or time is possible, no exceptions. Your musical presentation is limited to five (5) minutes. It’s to your benefit to memorize your musical presentation.
  3. Following the audition is a brief interview with the Scholarship Committee about the  information submitted in the application.
  4. A point value system is applied to areas of musical talent, selection of material, showmanship, appearance, length of presentation, memorization and interpretation of the music, plus scholastic record, financial need, and future plans for a musical education.

The six (6) finalists are the candidates with the highest combined score.  The Chorale Board then selects three (3) to perform and compete on Friday night, June TBD 2016 and the other three (3) on Saturday night, June TBD, 2016.  The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finish  is determined by an audience ballot at intermission, and the awards made later that evening at the show.

Note that the award recipient must be enrolled in an undergraduate music curriculum at an accredited college or university, and that the award is not cash. Upon enrollment notice from a proper school official the Chorale sends a check to the financial office to credit the award amount to the student account.
Scholarship Awards must be used within one year of award date.
