After another great Winter show, the RB Chorale family opens its arms on January 24, 2017 for new and returning members to join. We are looking to enhance our current 130-plus singers, dancers and support staff, for our June 9 and 10 Spring shows.
Openings are available in all vocal sections and support areas, although limited in the soprano and alto sections. New tenors and basses are especially sought. No audition is required, and all experience levels are welcome. See Recruitment PDF here.
Rehearsals begin on Tuesday January 24, 2017. We rehearse every Tuesday evening from 7:00 to about 9:00 PM, at the Painted Rock Elementary school located in north Poway.
New members should arrive at 6:30 PM to register and fill in a Membership Application form, and must join by the fourth rehearsal (Feb 14) to be eligible for the next show.
The Painted Rock Elementary School is located in north Poway, just off Rancho Bernardo Road, about a mile west of Pomerado Road.

RB Chorale 2016 Scholarship Winners
The RB Chorale awarded a total of $10,000 last Friday and Saturday nights to six promising musicians who will be attending college in the fall. Audiences at both performances were amazed at these talented teens. Thank you to everyone who came out to support Pat Bean and the RB Chorale’s 43rd Scholarship Show, “Showstoppers from Stage and Screen”. Here are the final results of the 2016 RB Chorale Scholarship awards:
Friday, June 10
The top prize of $2,500 went to Amber Schumann as her classical piano performance was a hit with the audience. She graduated from Poway High School and will head to Brigham Young University in Provo Utah in the fall to study music.
Kailey Berry earned $1,500 and is a graduate of Hilltop High School in Chula Vista. Her vocal rendition of “Summertime” was truly captivating and her engaging personality got the audience smiling. She plans to attend Southern Methodist University in the fall to study musical performance.
Kristine Llanderal played Gershwin on the piano and is the daughter of RB Chorale member Dixon Llanderal. She graduated from Poway High School and will study music education and conducting at the University of Redlands. She earned $1,000 toward her fall tuition.
Saturday, June 11
The big winner of $2,500 was vocalist Rachel Dovsky, who graduated from San Dieguito Academy in Encinitas. The beautiful aria she sang touched the audience, and she has been invited to Italy to perform this summer before heading off to Chapman University in Orange, CA in the fall.
Nicholas Hoo graduated from Westview High School and plans to study music and entertainment business San Diego State University. His saxophone caught everyone’s attention with a rendition of “How Much Is That Doggy in the Window”. Nick picked up $1,500 and is the son of RB Chorale members Kathy Zuazua and Cheehoe Hoo.
Rachel Hsieh, a Del Norte High School graduate, has chosen to attend University of California Los Angeles to study musical performance. An accomplished and passionate pianist, she earned $1,000 toward her fall tuition. The audience was riveted with her interpretation of the music.

Amber R. Schumann – Poway High School (Piano)
Amber plans to double major in Music, with an emphasis in Piano and Organ Performance and Statistics at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Her dream is to accompany the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and one day hopes to teach music. She also enjoys equestrian activities and photography.
Kailey J. Berry – Hilltop High School, Chula Vista (Vocal)
Kailey will attend Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and major in Vocal Performance with a minor in Italian. She has been involved in the San Diego Junior Theatre, performing in over 20 musicals, and has recently expanded to Classical Voice. Her dream is to attend Boston University’s elite Opera Institute.
Kristine L. Llanderal – Poway High School (Piano)
Kristine intends to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Conducting at the University of Redlands. In addition to studying piano, she enjoys singing with chorale groups, playing the clarinet and has been the Drum Major for the past two years in Poway High’s “Emerald Brigade Marching Band”.
Saturday June 11, 7pm
Rachel E. Dovsky – San Dieguito Academy, Encinitas (Vocal)
Rachel has been performing in musical theatre for ten years, and plans to attend Chapman University to double major in Music-Vocal Performance and Cognitive Science. She will perform at the International Lyric Academy of Rome & Viterbo this summer, and dreams using music in therapy for people with special needs.
Nicholas J. Hoo – Westview High School, San Diego (Saxophone)
Nick intends to combine his passion for music with his interest in business by attending San Diego State University to major in Music Entrepreneurship and Business. In addition to the sax, he plays the piano and sings. In his spare time he volunteers at four local retirement homes, bringing the joy of music to others.
Rachel Hsieh – Del Norte High School, San Diego (Piano)
Rachel will attend UCLA, with a possible double-major in Piano Performance and International Relations. As a member of the San Diego Youth Symphony, she played the violin and her goal is to perform with a renowned orchestra. Ultimately she would like to teach music and inspire young students.

It’s Holiday Memories in Song with the RB Chorale
Pat Bean and the RB Chorale transform your holiday season with a trip down Memory Lane, complete with sparklers and a special rendition of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”. Tickets are on sale now for three spirited performances at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, at 7pm on Friday, December 18th and Saturday, December 19th and at 1pm Sunday, December 20th.
The show features lots of Christmas music with a dash of Hanukkah, a splash of specialty acts, and the Chorale’s signature song finale “Say It with a Song”. This show brings together beautiful sets, festive chorale numbers, talented soloists, and dazzling dancers. Santa Claus will be there with treats for the children and don’t forget to bring an unwrapped toy for the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign.

Every December the Chorale performs to packed houses to raise funds for scholarships, presented in the following spring to graduating local high school seniors who intend to pursue their education in some form of musical endeavor. Over a quarter of a million dollars has been raised and awarded to date and this doesn’t happen without the support of the San Diego community. We need you!

Preferred Seating is $32, General Admission is $22, Seniors (55 & older), Students (13-18) and Active Military tickets are $20 and all children (through 12 years) are admitted for only $7.
